What's involved

Pinball playfields are stripped of ramps and plastics to be able to reach old rubber, lamps and dirt. Lamps and rubbers are replaced with new parts. Mechanisms are cleaned and adjusted. Playfield is polished or waxed before reassembly.
A service will cost R 5,500

Electromechanicals

Electromechanical (EM) machines have score reels like this one. Most of them are 50 years old and played to shreds. 99% of them don't work. All of them are sold by people who say they do. They use word like "just" and "quickly". Those people are lying to you. If it works it will reset the scores to zero and kick a ball into the shooter lane when you throw in a coin or press the replay button. It will then give you a game of 5 balls after which it will light up Game Over on the backglass. If it doesn't, it's broken. Don't buy it if you can't fix it yourself.

Electromechanicals

If you've gone and bought one of these you can bring it to me I'll check the obvious faults but I can't guarantee anything. There are, however some machine models that are really good games. Unfortunately, really good games are played to destruction. That's why I make new ones. They're cheaper in the long run and are immune to dirty contacts.

A service on a dead EM is therefore not offered on face value. If it's worth it, it will require a repair, a big one, involving violence, strong language and anti-inflammatory medicine, not just a service.

Mechanical Repair

Board Repair

Electronic circuit board repair. Common faults found on circuit bords are driver transistors, fuse clips, power supply rectifiers and capacitors and switch matrix buffers. All brands serviced including Bally, Williams, Data East, Stern and Gottlieb.

Corrosion Damage

Corrosion damage caused by a leaky battery can destroy a board. This can be prevented by installing a battery hanger as seen on my parts page.

Connector Repair

Broken and burnt connectora are replaced with new ones. Wires are crimped to the connector pins using proper tools and new parts. Normally, a header repair on the board will also be necessary.

New Ramps

This Whirlwind was left in the sun and the ramps melted. New ramps were imported and installed.
